Jean was born in England. As a young child, she lived in Kenya where her father had a farm. She had a traditional English boarding school education. She worked as a secretary in London for 3 years and then escaped to Australia seeking warmer weather and wide open spaces. While in Sydney she met an American sailor on the aircraft carrier ‘Coral Sea.’ That meeting resulted in her arrival in San Francisco in November 1963, and she and Larry were married in Alameda the following March. When Larry got out of the Navy they settled in Redwood City and had 2 children, Daniel and Angela. While the children were growing up the family was actively involved in Scouting, which culminated in Daniel becoming an Eagle Scout. They happily moved to Nevada City in 1981 where Larry worked for the Grass Valley Group and Jean worked as Library Assistant at Nevada Union for 18 years. Daniel, is an architect and lives with his wife and 2 boys in Alameda; they attend the same church where his parents were married. Angela, has 3 children and lives in Olympia, Washington. Jean’s primary interest is her family – as of this writing she is going back to England at least twice a year to be with her Mother who is in a nursing home, and is reconnecting with many members of her family.

Jean and Larry love the outdoors, and still enjoy their summers at Lake Tahoe hiking, biking and kayaking. Jean also loves gardening, is addicted to cross stitch embroidery and opera. She is presently serving as Secretary of the KARE Board.
